Seminary Internships

At GreenFaith, we’re dedicated to training people of faith to become leaders in the movement for climate justice. As part of this commitment, we offer internships specifically designed for seminary and divinity school students.
Each GreenFaith intern has specific goals and ends their time with us having completed a substantial deliverable (more on that below!). Interns receive direct supervision and theological mentoring from one of our staff members and also have the opportunity to participate in GreenFaith’s anti-racism and anti-discrimination activities and programs.

What does an internship at GreenFaith look like?

GreenFaith interns engage in a particular project and take the lead on tasks like digital and in-person recruitment, resource creation, and program implementation. Interns also engage in regular reflection and participate in GreenFaith’s biweekly staff meetings as well as other team meetings depending on their focus. We look for interns who are not put off by spreadsheets and details, see administrative work as vital to GreenFaith’s work, and who are creative, self-directed, and theologically-rooted. We value enthusiasm about working with a wide variety of team members across time zones and cultures.

Each intern will leave their time at GreenFaith having completed a project or an important milestone of a project. Past projects have included support of in-person actions, the creation of a multi-faith resource on climate justice, and significant re-organization of existing faith resources. Interns are an integral part of our team.

Hear from former GreenFaith interns

My internship at GreenFaith allowed me to put what I was learning in the classroom into practice and action by attending protests in San Francisco and helping with outreach for national campaigns. I was able to learn about how others connect their religion or spirituality to this work, while continuing to develop my own connection. This internship inspired me to continue to build connections between environmental justice and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America as a future rostered minister in the Lutheran tradition.

2023–2024

Interning at GreenFaith during my time in seminary kick-started my career in faith-based climate justice work. I was empowered to create a multi-faith resource full of anti-fossil-fuel worship resources, now used by faith communities around the world to incorporate climate justice into their spiritual practices (Sacred Season for Climate Justice). This project offered me the opportunity to weave together my passions and skills into a valuable resource that will long outlast the duration of my internship. The tools and connections I gained during my internship at GreenFaith continue to empower and inspire me on my journey.

My internship at GreenFaith allowed me to put what I was learning in the classroom into practice and action by attending protests in San Francisco and helping with outreach for national campaigns. I was able to learn about how others connect their religion or spirituality to this work, while representing GreenFaith at the Parliament of the World’s Religions, engaging in interfaith dialogue, learning about operations needs at a global nonprofit, and more. My internship at GreenFaith was transformative, providing me with a multifaceted education on the intersection of environmentalism and religion. It has equipped me with practical skills and a profound appreciation for the role of faith in promoting climate justice.
