Ground for Hope - Nov. 14-15
A Religious-Environmental Education and Leadership Event
On November 14-15, GreenFaith, the Theological
School at Drew
University, Watchung Avenue
Presbyterian Church in North Plainfield, and
the Green Seminary Initiative are presenting Ground for Hope - a
premier religious-environmental event for area religious leaders.
The 2-day program will include numerous education and leadership training opportunities – including an environmental health and justice tour in Newark, presentations on ‘green’ facility management, religious education and preaching on the environment, and a free Monday evening keynote and panel on environmental justice advocacy featuring nationally-recognized environmental justice advocate Dr. Nicky Sheats.

Dr. Larry Rasmussen will provide the keynote address on
November 15. One of the world
's foremost
Christian environmental ethicists, Dr. Rasmussen has mentored a generation of religious leaders in eco-theology and “green religion.” He spearheaded the
“greening” at the Union Theological Seminary and connected his courses and
scholarship with community and environmental leaders. He has published more
than a dozen books, including the award-winning Earth Community, Earth Ethics. He is currently directing a 10-year
project on Earth-honoring Christianity at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico.
Monday evening's program, from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m., will focus on environmental justice. Dr. Nicky Sheats will provide a keynote address on Environmental Justice and Climate Change, followed by a panel of regional leaders and activists.
Sunday’s program will run from 2:00 – 6:30 p.m. at Watchung Avenue Presbyterian Church in North Plainfield. Monday’s program at the Theological School at Drew University in Madison will run from 8:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m., and will include the environmental justice tour and an evening lecture and panel discussion on environmental justice.
